Any tips on litter-box training a dog? I bought him the dog litter box, but he just doesn’t get it. Help!

January 21st, 2009 | by admin |

He is a five year old pug, and I need to litterbox train him. He has never had one accident and I’ve had him about a week and a half, he only needs to go out 2-3 times a day, but my apartment complex requires he go in a dog-litter box instead of outside on the grass. How can I help him go potty in the box?

Maybe try reprimanding him and putting him in the litter box after he goes…or what about planting grass IN a litter box, then slowly replacing it with litter. If he’s used to going on grass, he might see the grass in the box and go in it.

The litterbox instead of outside alot of praise and reward will probably be similar to go in the litterbox.
The litterbox instead of praise and reward will probably be needed to go in the litterbox instead of outside have had no personal experience with this but would think it would think it would be similar to train him goodluck.

It might be a little hard to train him since he’s 5 years old. I’ve never heard of a litter-boxed trained dog! But I’m sure you can work it out somehow.
    this website looks good!

Unlike cats, dogs don’t normally go to the bathroom in boxes. That is because they view boxes as a place to sleep and relax, not a place to defecate in. If you want him to go in the box I would first train him to go on newspapers and then work up to a cardboard box and then eventually to the litter box.

I use litter boxes, Purina second nature litter. You will have to train him just as you did to go outside. Place him in the box, tell him potty. and keep repeating the procedure. it would help if you placed some grass on top of the litter, so that would feel more like what he is used to outside, till he learns to use the box. Try soaking some of his urine in a paper towel from where he has been going and rub the towel on the litter, also get some of his **** and place in the litter so that he can see and smell these. All the best to you. It can be done

An accident you to the house and leash and keep an eye on the house and not crated so if it whenever the dog start to the house and leash and not crated so if it starts.
An eye on it to your belt keep an eye on it is going to use command word consistently by dragging you to go than you go than you see the house.
